Traveling.

While I was driving to Shreveport today, I started thinking about the things I consider to be ‘must haves’ during my travels. During about 10-15 minutes of my 6 hour journey, this is what I came up with:

  1. A fuel efficient car – there are times I travel every other week out of town and I am constantly in the car. One thing I have learned to appreciate is the decreased stops for gas with a fuel efficient car, allowing me to get to my destination sooner. Also, with the cost of gas– I prefer to expense $25 versus $50 to fill up the tank. Driving a Dodge Avenger with Flex Fuel has allowed me to save money and time while traveling.
  2.

  3. Sirius radio – When I am renting a car, the car MUST have Sirius radio. If I cannot find that little sticker with the doggie on it slapped on a window, I move onto the next car. The array of entertainment on a Sirius radio is endless from current events to comedy stations.
  4.

  5. Aux output and cord – another MUST when choosing a rental. Although Sirius radio is entertaining, sometimes the stations are redundant and I want to listen to something a little different. Which leads to my next traveling staple…
  6.

  7. iPhone – do I really need to explain? I am able to check the weather, my emails, local restaurants, tweet, Sudoku and most importantly – with the Aux option in my rental, I can listen to my personal choosing of music or to a podcast (I’m in Sales – podcasts are wonderful).
  8.

  9. Garmin – How can I get to where I want to go, if I don’t know where I’m going? I am also able to save my favorite places and find stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc.
  10.

  11. Computer – for work and leisure. Who needs television? I can watch DVDs, compile reports…work on anything I may have brainstormed during my driving excursion J
  12.

  13. Dark Denim jeans – (sorry, I am a woman) perfect for heading out to dinner and a night cap without having to change my entire outfit. After working a long day, I want to be efficient as possible to enjoy my leisure time with co-workers and bosses.
  14.

  15. A Book or two – some entertaining in the quietness of my hotel room. Again, who needs television?
  16.

  17. Bottled water – Goodness, the cost for purchasing a soda, bottled water or have a drink delivered to your room is too expensive. I will just head to a local grocery store or Target (love that place) pick-up a 6 or 8-pack of bottled water for just a couple of dollars. And voila, water in my hotel room and in my car anytime I want something to drink. Side note: If you stay at a Hilton they usually provide a couple of bottled waters
  18.

  19. POINTS!!!! – I am enrolled in every point membership program affiliation (whatever they may be called) for every hotel, airline, car rental company I use. In less than a year, I have earned a free roundtrip ticket, free car rentals and a two night hotel stay. Capitalize on the point system it is worth it.
  20.

  21. An imagination – If you are on the road as long as I am and the music or podcasts are too much. Just turn everything off, enjoy the scenery and open your mind. This is where the voice recorder on an iPhone or Blackberry (haven’t owned any other phone in years, so can’t vouch for other brands) come into play. Especially when I have a presentation, I can record my thoughts while I am driving. Then when I arrive home or at the hotel room I can type key points from my recording.
  22.

Happy and safe travels!

shortcoming or blessing.

January 18, 2010 Leave a comment

I was thinking today, as I try to do on a consistent basis in order to function in life.  There are people in life who will point out things you find as blessings to be shortcomings.  For example, somone may point out that John Doe seems to get gadgets before others.  This person may also point out John Doe’s electronics are updated within 6 mos leaving him to the ‘old stuff’, which is expected.  Is this a (tangible) shortcoming?  I like to think of this more as a blessing.  John Doe is pretty lucky to be able to experience things he enjoys and is a trendsetter.  Lucky for him, he may also get bored easily so the fact that gadgets change in 6 mos may be what excites him?

Kind of like changing my hair every 5 weeks.  It’s like a whole new Pribble.  If my hairstylist chooses the wrong cut for my face…it’s ok.  Why?  Because hair grows back.  5 weeks later…new Pribble.  Love it.

Don’t get caught up in what others have and always be thankful for what you do have.  The fact is things are only ‘things’.  Life is short and nothing matters more than the loved ones you have in your life and the way you choose to live your life.  Count your blessings.  The more humble you are the more blessings you will receive.  I have learned the hard way a time or two…which I am sure I will continue to learn for the rest of my days.

I love my family and friends…gadgets, schmadgets are just extras people get to enjoy.

Enjoy your day!

Get er’ Done.

January 18, 2010 Leave a comment

Has anyone ever wondered why they just can seem to get things done? Save money? Take their dream vacation? Close the sale?

The key to getting these things done is writing your goal or plan down, remain CONSISTENT and most importantly just GET ER’ DONE!

Many people live their days putting things off…waiting for tomorrow…and tomorrow…and of course, yet again…for tomorrow.  They write their dreams down only to stare at the note day in and day out until spring cleaning rolls around = d-day to throw away the piece of paper that has not made their dream magically appear. Just as worst, people make the first few steps towards their dreams only to be distracted by this thing we call life. Then a year later, stumble across their goals/dreams only to find out they are back at square one. Now I am not saying to live life only by strands of goals and dreams. Life does happen and life is a wonderful adventure to experience, just don’t forget about your dreams and sell yourself short. You can live life and reach for the things that burn inside you.

The only way to get things done is to do it and start now. Take things step by step, day by day and before you know it you will be closer to your goal or your dream.

In sales, this means to always follow-up with your customers. You are there to provide a service by being the expert they need to answer any questions and guide them along their path to educated decision making.

In savings, this means to put a little away every day – starting today.

We can only live the lives we actually put forth the effort for. I always see those who dream to live and those who live their dreams. Which person will you be?

Get er’ done…and get er’ done now!

So, apparently I pressed CTRL+Z and deleted my ENTIRE POST!!!!! whyyyyy!!  Let’s try this again.  Although, things are never as great as the original ;)

After thinking of what I do to motivate myself on a daily basis or when I am in a rut at work, I listen to podcasts.  In a previous post, I mentioned that I love the iPhone with it’s versatility.  On a weekly basis I download a FREE podcast named SalesGravy by Jeb Blount.  I find his podcasts to be simple and short…I am grateful they are not rocket science ;)

I recommend listening to his podcast, especially if you are like me and spend many hours a week in a vehicle of some sort.  However, if you prefer to read here is Jeb’s Blog (narrator of SalesGravy):  JebsBlog

Also, while I am on the wonderful world of the internet I have also looked up a video on youtube in response to another podcast I listened to.  Enjoy!  Remember, you build a wall one brick at a time…and just get ‘er done!

Late Hours Hunting.

When I am up late at night racking my brain about business stuff, which happens on a daily basis and months at a time, I end up at BNET.com.

BNET.com covers business in general, management techniques/blogs and business strategies.  Check it out sometime and just go hunting around.  You never know what you will find.  Something new, something helpful or perhaps a refresher.

Happy hunting!

Update. Personal.

So after these past three weeks, I am excited to say I will be able to stay in the comfort of my home for at least 2 weeks straight!  SWEEEEET!

I am excited that our new dining room is currently in place thank you to the help I received from my father.  He and I had the adventuresome road-trip from Orlando to New Orleans to accomplish a feat I definitely would have been unable to do…alone.  Carry a dining room table up two flights of stairs.  Okay, maybe one flight of stairs that zig zag about half way up.  Needless to say – pribble alone = no dining room table.

On a personal note, I have decided to read Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  Must say that I am excited to have my downfalls and selfishness revealed to me once again.  Starting off, the book seems to display an extreme case of passion for God.  Kind of like that first love in life that moves you to scream from the rooftop in exclamation of your feelings.  A love so pure, powerful, selfless you are willing to go completely blind to your needs in order to fulfill the desires of your loved one.  Excited I tell you.

Create change and embrace love.

Now. Update.

August 9, 2009 Leave a comment

So, as I look at this blog to see the date of my last entry…I am surprised. Apparently I have taken a seven month intermission (or slacking off…but I prefer intermission) from updating my online world. Since January I have had a few life changing events happen. Nope, not pregnant. I have managed to stay dedicated to my company and am blessed to have received a promotion. Now with this glorious promotion, I have been relocated to the wonderful world that is known as New Orleans Louisiana. I must say, New Orleans can sound somewhat intimidating but has become a new chapter to this amazing life according to Pribble. Prior to my relocation…I have been legally changed from a ‘Pribble’ to a ‘Thomas’. Yup, I married my beau of six years and have been in utter bliss since April.

Pribble has gotten married. Received an AMAZING promotion. Moved to another world. What is next? I don’t know. The sky is the limit and I truly believe that. Surround yourself with ‘giants’ and the only way to go is UP!

I will share some of my trials and tribulations in the workplace. Lately, although I have the unidentified role as a ‘teacher’ I am the one learning. I am open to learning and growing. What I learn and how I grow will be my theme for the coming blogs. If you know me, then you know it will be hard for me to stay to just ONE topic.
